The RtI Committee met last week (Jan. 9, 2014) and is working on restructuring the manner in which RtI will be utilized for LMS. This is not a change that is quick, it will be done over the next couple of years so that it is implemented properly and is sustained for years after.

The meaning behind the "duck" icon:
Early on, the RtI committee attended a training where a presentation was shown by three professionals from another Ohio school system. They were talking about how they got RtI up and running successfully in their own school system. They shared with us a poignant example of ducklings falling through a grate as they followed the mother duck across it. They used this imagery for their own staff to assert the point that teachers are like mother ducks and if we act carelessly in our profession, our ducklings can be left behind educationally. That we need to be aware of who is struggling. Teachers need to provide proper instruction for all students (especially those who are struggling) and monitor their successes and failures. We liked the duck analogy very much and decided to use it for the LMS staff. This is why we have used the duck image at our website and it's also why we called it the "duck stop." Of course, Louisville is also Home of the Leopards, so finding a leopard-patterned duck to use was bonus! Below is a "duck slide show" that drives home the point in a slightly different way...enjoy!
